The Pure Ceylon Tea Lion Logo Certification
In an era where mass-market tea brands often blend cheap leaves from multiple countries under deceptive labels, the Lion Logo stands as the ultimate seal of authenticity and uncompromising quality.
What Does the Lion Logo Symbolize?
Owned exclusively by the Sri Lanka Tea Board, the Lion Logo trademark depicts a majestic lion holding a traditional sword (Kasthane) inside a framed shield. It guarantees that the product inside is authentic, unadulterated, and processed according to strict national standards.
The 7 Mandatory Criteria to Display the Lion Logo:
- 100% Pure Ceylon Tea: The product must contain exclusively tea grown in Sri Lanka, with zero blending of leaves from other countries.
- Packed in Sri Lanka: The tea must be completely consumer-packed in Sri Lanka to protect local growers and preserve freshness at source.
- ISO 3720 Compliance: The batch must pass mandatory physical and chemical tests conforming to ISO 3720 minimum black tea standards.
- HACCP & ISO Food Safety: Processing facilities must be certified for food hygiene and international safety standards.
- Low Moisture Content (<6.5%): Tea leaves must be dried to optimal moisture levels to ensure long shelf life without mold growth.
- Sri Lanka Tea Board License: Exporters must hold an active export license code issued by the Tea Board.
- Strict Packaging Approval: The packaging design and text must be inspected and pre-approved by Tea Board compliance officers before printing.
Why Importers & Consumers Look for the Lion Logo
When international buyers purchase tea carrying the Lion Logo, they are guaranteed a premium product directly from source. It protects consumers from multi-origin diluting and ensures that every cup delivers the genuine aroma, flavor, and health benefits of Sri Lanka's legendary tea gardens.
